Thyroid Awareness Month Resource Package

January is Thyroid Awareness Month, which brings attention to the health problems caused by the thyroid and provides resources to patients and caregivers.

As an ode to Thyroid Awareness Month, we’re providing a list of resources thyroid patients and caregivers can access to get the tools and knowledge necessary to help manage their chronic illnesses. These resources provide tools, deliver the latest research news, and offer patient education regarding thyroid disease, parathyroid, and thyroid cancer.

To learn more, look at our resource package for Thyroid Awareness Month.

American Thyroid Association

The American Thyroid Association (ATA) aims to promote the overall health and well-being of thyroid disease and cancer patients. ATA offers a Find a Thyroid Specialist patient resource, which allows patients and caregivers to find their nearest thyroid specialist. Other resources on ATA for thyroid patients include patient education, the latest clinical trials, and much more.

As an immunocompromised patient, it’s essential to understand the precautions needed to protect yourself against COVID-19. ATA also provides a hub of COVID-19 links to different organizations on COVID-19 resources for thyroid patients. You can search through frequently asked questions (FAQs) about COVID-19 and thyroid, vaccines, and more.

American Association of Endocrine Surgeons

Endocrine surgeons can provide surgical treatment for patients with thyroid and parathyroid. If you’re looking for an endocrine surgeon in your area, the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons (AAES) provides a tool to find endocrine surgeons. You can narrow your search by choosing specific clinical interests, like thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal glands.

Hormone Health Network

Created by the Endocrine Society, the Hormone Health Network provides health tools for patients and caregivers to understand hormone-related conditions better. Users can access an A-Z directory on various health conditions, learn more about hormone health, and search through more than 6,500 endocrinologists across the globe.

CancerCare

CancerCare offers free professional support services for thyroid cancer patients. On their website, you can access counseling from oncology social workers, get financial assistance for covering cancer-related costs, join support groups, and more. In addition, CancerCare hosts one-hour workshops about general topics on managing cancer.

HealthyWomen

HealthyWomen’s Thyroid Disorders Hub has several articles on thyroid diseases that target men managing this chronic disease. From mental health to COVID-19, these articles provide insight from health and wellness experts on different thyroid diseases and how to manage and seek treatment for them. Additionally, HealthyWomen’s Real Women, Real Stories series allows women aged 35 to 64 to share their health journey on their platform. If selected, you’ll be paired with a professional writer who will craft your story into an “as told to” format.

MedlinePlus

If you’re looking for evidence-based information on thyroid diseases, the National Library of Medicine’s MedlinePlus provides several free resources you can search through. MedlinePlus has articles on thyroid diseases, like diagnosis, treatments, and therapies. In addition, you can also find the latest clinical trials, a database of thyroid experts, and patient handbooks on their website
